Description

The Growth Team in the Organizational Development and Strategy Unit is seeking individuals to fill the role of Indigenous Racialized Youth Leaders as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program for 2024. This is an 8 week program at 35 hours per week beginning May 22, 2024 to July 16, 2024 with an orientation scheduled on May 15th.

The successful Candidate will work in collaboration with other participants to organize and plan a one-week camp for Indigenous and racialized youths (15-24 yrs old).

Each participant will be responsible for a particular topic to research and engage via interactive learning those who will attend a 5-day camp on environmental racism (including impact of poverty on youth health), racial discrimination, Indigenous spirituality (including respect for the land), community building and mental issues among youth.

The participants will receive training on dialogue education and conflict resolution and will also lead and facilitate the camp sessions in addition to overseeing the operations of the camp.

Qualifications

  • Youth between the ages of 15 to 30 are eligible to apply for this position
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations Good verbal and communication skills, meticulous attention to detail and results oriented
  • Ability to work in collaboration with others;
  • Proficiency in oral and writing skills;
  • Demonstrate skills to do research and ability to transfer the findings to a learning environment;
  • Leadership skills via past experience and openness to learn.

Compensation

Salary will be at $21.13 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
