The Finance Advisory Committee provides support, leadership, and advice on the finances of the General Council Office, the General Council, and its Executive. The committee is seeking up to four new members who will bring financial and stewardship experience and knowledge. Individuals will be comfortable with or have expertise in one or more financial disciplines, including operations management, strategic planning, accounting, financial strategy, investments, risk management, or audits.
The committee is composed of six to eight members, including two members of the General Council Executive and up to six members who have senior-level financial accreditation or experience (CPA, CGA, CFA) or real estate or philanthropy experience. Committee members will be active participants in a local pastoral charge or ministry, familiar with the polity of The United Church of Canada, predisposed to collaboration and teamwork, sensitive to diversity issues, leaders in a court of the church, passionately committed to the mission of the United Church, and willing to discern God’s yearnings for this work.
This committee typically meets four to six times a year. There is usually one day-long, face-to-face meeting each year at the General Council Office in Toronto. Other meetings are by conference call and limited to two hours. In rare cases, additional committee or task group meetings may be required for specific items or projects.
