The United Church is grateful to all those who supported relief efforts for those affected by the hurricanes and earthquakes in the Caribbean in late 2017. Your generous gifts raised over $187,000 to help meet the needs of people in Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Dominica, and St-Martin, among others.

Mission & Service partner ACT Alliance (of which the United Church is a member) responded immediately by assisting with evacuations, providing emergency shelter, and helping communities rebuild. ACT also focused on providing clean water, livelihood recovery, and social support for affected people—especially the elderly and families with children.

Your gifts also helped other United Church partners in affected regions provide local support, including the Christian Centre for Reflection and Dialogue in Cárdenas, Cuba (CCRD). Together with government and church agencies (including ACT Alliance), CCRD works in Matanzas province to provide disaster relief, promote emergency preparedness, and support reconstruction and rehabilitation in the wake of natural disasters.

Although this response is ending, the United Church continues to receive your gifts to Mission & Service to support partners in Canada and around the world.
