The Sub-Executive of the General Council of The United Church of Canada has approved the appointment of Treena Duncan as the new Regional Executive Minister for Chinook Winds Regional Council and Pacific Mountain Regional Council effective June 24, 2019. Ms. Duncan will follow the Rev. Doug Goodwin, long-time Executive Secretary of BC Conference, who had agreed to serve as Regional Minister for the two regional councils until June 2019. In addition to her accountability to the two regional councils, Ms. Duncan, like all the Regional Executive Ministers, will work with the General Secretary as part of the Staff Leadership team of the denomination.
A lifelong member of the United Church, Treena Duncan began serving as the Conference Personnel Minister for BC Conference in 2002, and is currently Director of Human Resources and Leadership Development for Pacific Mountain Region. She has been responsible for enhancing and managing the innovative LeaderShift program, which supports ministry personnel through programming and coaching. She also implemented the pilots in BC Conference for the Candidacy Pathway and Effective Leadership projects, which were foundational in the restructuring currently underway in the United Church. Through her work she has also established valued working relationships with the Indigenous leadership in the church in British Columbia.
Having lived in and served the church in what is now Pacific Mountain Regional Council for many years, Ms. Duncan is excited about getting to know new colleagues in Chinook Winds Regional Council and working with them in developing their new structures and processes. She will continue to reside in Surrey, BC, but will be present in Chinook Winds on a regular basis.
