Advent, the beginning of the church year and a season of preparation for Christmas, starts on Sunday, December 3. There are many ways to get involved, as an individual or as a faith community.
- Advent Unwrapped: Explore the themes of hope, peace, joy, love, and Christmas through regular blog posts, prayers, and thematic videos. Put yourself in the Christmas story through interactive ideas suitable for your entire family or community of faith. Download worship ideas and services, an Advent calendar to post to your fridge, new colouring pages, dramatized scripture readings, seasonal songs, and more. The 2017 blogs have begun, and new resources—including thematic videos—are online. Visit regularly or subscribe for updates to see what’s new.
- Advent Peace Box: This practical tool for study and worship is back for its fourth year. Say “enough” to 50 years of Palestinian occupation and involve all generations in becoming a justice-seeking church. Our popular Peace Box features fair-trade Palestinian olive oil from Zatoun and practical all-ages ideas for study and worship. Order yours by November 17 to have it in time for Advent. The accompanying online resources can be used for one or more Sundays, in worship or at a meeting, coffee time, or study group. If you're a repeat user, consult the appendix "I have used this all before" for ideas on keeping it fresh.
- Virtual Advent Calendar: In December, be sure to follow the United Church (UCCan) on social media for daily posts highlighting gratitude, good works, and a spirit of reflective preparation.
- Advent Resources from UCRDstore: Remember, you can also order top picks for the season from our online resource distribution centre. Advent 2017 begins liturgical year B.
