The GC43 Pilgrims take part in the Skylight Festival and visit some of the innovative ministries in Hamilton Conference.
The GC43 youth pilgrims made their way across Canada this summer, with the goal of visiting every United Church conference, including a stop at the 43rd General Council meeting in Oshawa, ON. Read all the blog posts from their journey and see more pictures on their Facebook page and Instagram feed.
As General Council came to an end our time in Hamilton Conference began. Our day started with a train ride to Branford so we could take part in the Skylight Festival at Five Oaks Education and Retreat Centre. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a session on faithful business practices, lead by Joshua Fernandez. We then had time to relax by the water until dinner. As the night went on some of us went to a concert, while other decided to play board games or go see fireflies by the water.
The next day we joined everyone for a final worship before the festival ended. In return for hosting us while we were in Hamilton Conference, we helped clean and pack supplies from the festival. We then had the rest of the day to reflect on what happened at General Council 43.
On our second day in Hamilton, we went to see some of the community within the Conference. We started by visiting Chalmers Community Services Centre in Guelph, ON, where we helped them with their garden where the community could come and get healthy vegetables. We then proceeded to Chalmers Community Centre where they told us about all the things they provide to the surrounding area. Our final stop for the day was at Wesley Urban Centre in Hamilton where we volunteered for the afternoon. We then returned to Five Oaks and spent the rest of the night relaxing.
The next morning we packed and prepared for our train to London. We had a lovely time in Hamilton Conference learning and experiencing new things and we could not wait to see what London had in store for us.
