Welcome to the Voices United CD-ROM Worship Planner page, a resource related to Voices United, the hymn and worship book of The United Church of Canada.

This software resource is designed to assist worship planners do the following:

• Display the first lines of hymns and songs in numerical order.
• Search for hymns by tune name.
• Search hymns by author, composer.
• Research tune names grouped by metrical category.
• Display hymn poetry in strophic form.
• Scan a list of hymns suitable for use with children.
• View the score (musical) of the hymn or psalm refrain.
• Search hymns for specific text.
• Select hymns, prayers; assign roles within worship.
• Research hymn titles grouped by topic, e.g. angels.
• Look up prayers scattered amongst the hymns.
• Discover hymns related directly to a biblical verse.
• Display performance suggestions, as well as pertinent historical and biographical information.
• Look up the scriptures listed in the Revised Common Lectionary (years A-B-C).
• Examine Scripture Songs.

Questions and Answers

Welcome to the place for questions relating to Voices United Worship Planner in its format as CD-ROM.

To get the conversation going, here are some questions we've already heard.

1. Will the tune I hear on the "play" button be available to accompany my congregation while they sing?

It is not intended for this purpose. People who are learning a new song may listen to this rendition a few times as they become familiar with it, or a worship planner may check lyrics against a tune for matching and usage. You will also find that tunes with first and second endings do not transfer easily to public performance.

2. Can I download the lyrics of a hymn for reprinting in my Sunday pew bulletin?

No. Copyright restrictions prevent the transfer of text from this software into your computer storage system.

3. Can I cut-and-copy prayers from Celebrate God's Presence into the worship planning sector of this program?

Yes. If you have loaded Celebrate God's Presence CD you will be able to highlight a prayer you need, and transfer it into the worship planning sheet under "Comments."

Small Print

Minimum System Requirements

This software has minimum system requirements. Anything less than recommended and the user could encounter problems with the software. The VU CD-ROM Planner has been installed and tested on Windows 95, 98 and NT. It has been successfully installed on Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, but not fully tested in these operating environments. It is not designed for use on Mac, Linux, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 based platforms.

MIDI Files

This software has midi files as part of its functionality. MIDI files are music sampler files. In order for the user to play these files the computer must have a sound card and speakers (internal or external). The computer settings for sound playback (volume etc.) should be checked to insure they are correct for MIDI file compatibility.

Computer viruses can cause problems with sound files. Please have virus software installed on your computer to prevent file corruption. Also, software applications that you install on your computer can conflict with existing applications or applications that you install later. Please insure software compatibility when installing new software.

Help Manual

The VU CDRom Planner has an on-line help file that is part of the install of the application. It shows step by step instructions on what the software does. You can print these instructions page by page for review.

Macintosh Version

There is no Macintosh version of this software. There are, however, several Windows emulator software programs that allow you to install and run Windows applications on your Macintosh computer.

Future Versions and updates

There are currently no plans for future updates or new releases of this software. Any problems that may be discovered with this software will be listed here with a possible solution or a way to work around the problem.

Please note that there is no technical support service available for this software. Please consult the Help Manual in the software for answers to your questions. For problems that require extra attention, please approach individuals familiar with computers within your own network.
