Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Vision

To consistently and effectively network with those providing pastoral care with and to senior adults within facilities in The United Church of Canada.

Mission

The United Church of Canada's Seniors Chaplains Network is a voluntary association of those providing pastoral care to seniors in personal care homes and other facilities. It is dedicated to providing a network, resources, and programs for those who share ministry with, to, and by senior adults.

Goals

To encourage and support those in ministry to and with older adults in institutional settings.

To enhance and improve the quality of life of seniors who are residents in long-term care/personal care homes.

This is to be done by providing resources, programs, and networks that recognize the particular issues and needs of the older person living in health care facilities regarding spirituality, faith, culture, tradition, life/death, and others, as well as promoting their skills and gifts.

Objectives

Objective 1

Provide support to chaplains and chaplaincy programmes within seniors' residences and to others involved in ongoing work with seniors.

Strategy 1.i

Identify the chaplains network, issue invitations to join The United Church of Canada's Seniors Chaplains network.

Strategy 1.ii

Encourage regional networking of United Church chaplains involved in seniors' ministry.

Strategy 1.iii

Explore the possibility of a national gathering of seniors' chaplains.

Objective 2

Provide support and resources to United Church chaplains and those providing pastoral care to seniors' ministry.

Strategy 2.i

Develop a mechanism to share resources (Web, chat room, etc.…) and/or a newsletter.

Objective 3

Promote awareness to the larger United Church of Canada of ministry to older adults living within personal care homes and in other health care facilities as an essential component of United Church ministry, mission, and faith development.
