Social Justice

Peace

Peace and reconciliation lie at the very heart of the good news proclaimed by Jesus. The United Church works for peace and authentic human security by seeking justice and by attempting to understand and address the roots of conflict. Work for peace is done in diverse ways: through support of global and ecumenical partners, in active membership in the ecumenical Project Ploughshares * organization, and through the 2007–2009 United for Peace education, action, and fundraising campaign.

  • The World Council of Churches' Decade to Overcome Violence centres on the spirit and logic of violence; the use, misuse, and abuse of power; justice; and religious identity and plurality.
  • Eliminating weapons, globally, nationally, and locally, is a central step in creating a just peace.
