The first edition of The Manual was issued in 1928, under the authority of the Second General Council (1926). Since then, The Manual has been an important and valuable resource for members and organized bodies of The United Church of Canada.

The 35th edition, The Manual, 2010, is in effect as of August 1, 2010. It incorporates the following changes:

• Remits approved during the 2006-2009 triennium and enacted by the 40th General Council (2009)
• Category 1 Remits approved at the start of the 2009-2012 triennium and made effective by the 40th General Council (2009) pending the final action of the 41st General Council (2012)
• changes approved by the 40th General Council (2009) and the Executive of the General Council
