The Communities in Ministry Unit (CIM) designates $100,000 for Responsive Initiative Grants, which provide funds to United Church theological schools and education centres for new, innovative programmatic initiatives that are responsive to the triennium planning directions of the General Council. To discuss whether a proposal addresses General Council directions, applicants are encouraged to consult with the Rev. Steve Willey
, Program Coordinator, Education and Leadership Development.
Criteria
Initiatives are eligible for funding on an annual basis, and a single project may be funded for a maximum of three years.
- Applications must demonstrate how a proposed initiative is responsive to the triennium plans established by General Council.
- Joint applications on behalf of two or more United Church educational institutions are eligible and encouraged.
- Applications must include a detailed budget. Budgets may include provision of honoraria, or compensation for contract staff, but must exclude funding for capital costs. In situations where there is a formal institutional partnership between two or more United Church schools or centres, budgets may include travel costs for students and/or faculty.
- The following additional types of initiatives are encouraged:
- Initiatives that are innovative in the field of theological education
- Initiatives that yield learnings/programs that can be widely shared
- Projects receiving financial support from additional sources/partnerships
- A status report is required annually for multi-year initiatives.
