Loans and Grants

The United Church provides numerous supports to its congregations, camps, education centres, and outreach ministries. Financial programs are designed to help small congregations to get through periods of reduced income or to do renovations and repairs.

In 2011–2014, congregations and other ministries in Ontario are eligible for retrofit grants. Ontario Power Authority Retrofit Program [PDF: 1 p/26 KB] provides additional information. Ministries in other provinces should check with their provincial or local authorities for similar programs.

  • The New Ministries Formation Fund supports initiatives that build either new faith communities or relationships with communities that are not currently a part of the church.
  • The Vision Fund supports innovative, creative, and new congregational youth and young adult ministry in The United Church of Canada. It provides seed grants for innovative ministry, grants for flourishing ministry, and continuing education bursaries.

Mission and Ministry Grants

Mission and Ministry grants are now administered through the Seeds of Hope granting program. Applications are accepted twice a year: spring deadline, March 15; fall deadline, October 15. For more information on the grants available and the application process, see "How to Apply" on The United Church of Canada Foundation site .
