Duty of Care

Administrative Standards

The accreditation program consists of developing sector-specific standards and an accreditation site visit. The goal of these standards is to ensure the highest level of care in delivering services through United Church ministries.

Accreditors with sector-specific knowledge and expertise conduct site visits and assess the ministry's ability to meet the various standards as outlined. A written report is presented to the Duty of Care Program Advisory Committee for an accreditation decision. The Permanent Committee—Programs for Mission and Ministry makes the final decision.

These manuals and accompanying tools are offered to help your ministry meet the standards.

Policies and Guidelines

The administrative standards make reference throughout to "policies" that should be in place. The following guide can assist organizations in writing policies and organizing manuals. It addresses the process as a whole and suggests formatting and language. This is only a suggested guide—organizations may have their own formats to use in their own settings.
