Duty of Care

In August 2006, General Council 39 passed a motion resulting in the first significant changes to section 429 of The Manual since 1962. The motion reflected that the way we did ministry within the community was changing and we needed to adapt to this change. The existing requirements were impeding the work of the ministries and had to be addressed. Recognizing and addressing the unique needs of emerging ministries in partnership and acknowledging that ministries had grown beyond the church were additional significant issues that had to be addressed.

Possibly the most significant change was the move of supervision from the presbytery to the Conference. This toolkit is intended to assist Conferences in their role as supervising court. We hope the guidelines, samples, templates, and checklists will aid in the transition and ongoing supervision of these vibrant and vital ministries. We also hope that existing corporations or those considering incorporating will find the resources useful.
