Archives and Recordkeeping

The Montreal and Ottawa Conference of the United Church includes almost all the province of Quebec, except the Gaspé peninsula and three congregations in the western part of the province. The Gaspé peninsula falls within the Maritime Conference; the three congregations fall within Ontario's Manitou Conference. Those three congregations are: St. Paul's Church, Temiscaming, QC; All Saints Church, Noranda, QC; and Val d'Or Church, Val d'Or, QC. The Montreal and Ottawa Conference also includes the following counties in Ontario: Carleton, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, and Stormont.

Montreal and Ottawa Conference archival holdings are housed in four separate locations:

• Records of the Quebec-Sherbrooke Presbytery (records outside the Eastern Townships) are with the Archives nationales du Quebec, Centre regional de L'Estrie.
• Records of the Quebec-Sherbrooke Presbytery (Eastern Township records) are with University in Lennoxville, QC.
• Records for Montreal Presbytery, Laurentien Presbytery, the records for the Quebec congregations located within Ottawa Presbytery, and administrative records for the Montreal and Ottawa Conference at large are housed at the Archives nationales du Québec in Montreal, QC.
• Records of the Ottawa Presbytery and the Seaway Valley Presbytery, both in Ontario, are housed at the City of Ottawa Archives in Ottawa, ON.
