Summary of Holdings

The Alberta and Northwest Conference area encompasses the province of Alberta and the northeastern section of the province of British Columbia, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.

Congregations outside the bounds of the province of Alberta are included within the Conference's Northern Lights Presbytery.

Specifically the congregations are:

  • Chetwynd Shared Ministry, Chetwynd BC
  • St. Paul's Church, Tumbler Ridge, BC
  • Hillcrest Church, Fort Nelson, BC
  • Church of the Apostles, Faro, YT
  • St. Luke's Church, Fort St. John, BC
  • Whitehorse Church, Whitehorse, YT
  • St. Peter's Church, Hudson Hope, BC
  • Grace Church, Hay River, NT
  • South Peace Church, Dawson Creek, BC
  • Yellowknife Church, Yellowknife, NT

The Alberta and Northwest Conference Archives holds records of Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational Churches within Alberta, the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territories, and the northeastern section of British Columbia prior to 1925, and of The United Church of Canada after 1925.

Holdings include those records created by local congregations such as registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials; historic membership rolls and communion rolls; general membership lists; minutes of church boards, committees, and organizations (including women's groups); printed annual reports of local congregations; congregational newsletters; local church histories; correspondence; accounts; photographs; and audio and video recordings.

Holdings also include those records created by the constituent Presbyteries of the Alberta and Northwest Conference and those records created by the Alberta and Northwest Conference itself, its staff, officers, committees, task groups, educational institutions and hospitals operated by the Conference, as well as personal and private papers and manuscripts of individuals associated with the Conference.

Over 500 local congregations in the Alberta and Northwest Conference (including closed congregations) have deposited some original records in the Archives.

Full service (including document retrieval)
Tuesday to Saturday: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Sunday, Monday, and statutory holidays: closed to the public

Reference room service only (no document retrieval)
Wednesday: 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm
