M&S Enthusiasts

Becoming an Enthusiast

Program Intention

To keep the Mission and Service Fund a priority in the minds, hearts, and financial givings of United Church members and adherents in local congregations.

To recruit from congregations/pastoral charges, individuals who feel passionate about helping others to see the connection between God's generosity to us and our thankful response to God that we express through giving.

Enthusiasts will help the church realize this intention by

  • asking the congregation to support M&S
  • encouraging the congregation/pastoral charge to set and meet realistic and challenging Mission and Service Fund goals
  • announcing with enthusiasm the Mission and Service Fund goal for each year
  • working with the ministerial staff to ensure that the Mission and Service Fund is featured regularly from the pulpit and in congregational life through Minutes for Mission, prayers, sermons, or bulletin inserts
  • ensuring that resources are ordered and used as needed
  • giving regular reports to the congregation/pastoral charge regarding progress toward the annual goal
  • helping people to develop a personal interest in the ministries of the Mission and Service Fund
  • providing an opportunity for feedback to the broader church as appropriate (e.g. to Presbytery or Conference)

Expectation

Enthusiasts will attend an annual training event when available.

Process

Talk to your Conference to get more details about the program. Discuss your intention with your minister and agree on the role you will play in your congregation.

The Enthusiast is intended to have an educational role in the congregation/pastoral charge-not a decision-making or administrative role. S/he will liaise with the Stewardship Committee, Official Board, or Church Council as the congregation/pastoral charge sees appropriate.
