The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaMembers are invited to consider the Current Openings carefully and prayerfully before submitting a nomination. You may also wish to consult Discernment as you consider who God is calling to serve in these ways.
For each role in which a person is willing to serve, the Nominations Committee requests a separate written expression of interest of no more than 500 words. If a person is willing to serve in more than one role, please submit separate expressions of interest tailored to each role and specify the order of preference. A person will only be appointed to one role in each recruitment cycle.
The expression of interest may be written directly by the person willing to serve (the nominee) or collaboratively between a nominee and nominator. Include the following information about the nominee in the expression of interest:
Submit the expression of interest to the Nominations Committee by the deadline noted on the Current Openings page. To allow the Nominations Committee to discern in an open and transparent manner, it is necessary to have complete information for all nominees by the specified deadline. Incomplete expressions of interest or those received after the deadline cannot be considered.
All submitted expressions of interest will be acknowledged by e-mail to the nominee within a few days. If you do not received acknowledgement of your submission within a week, please contact Member Engagement to confirm that it was received.

Member EngagementDrawing from the submitted expressions of interest, the Nominations Committee uses a spiritual discernment process to make recommendations for appointment to the Executive of the General Council.
Prior to discernment all names are forwarded to Conference executive secretaries/speaker for comment, and also to the appropriate chairperson and staff resource for the role. Screening procedures are applicable if members are in contact with at-risk or vulnerable groups through their committee work.
In some cases there will be more expressions of interest than vacancies within a role. Members who are not appointed are encouraged to express interest again when next called to do so. All who express interest will be contacted following the meeting of the Executive of the General Council.
The use, retention and disclosure of personal information collected through this process is done in compliance with all applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation including, but not limited to, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (S.C. 2000, c. 5).
