The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaHow did it all begin? In 2003, a worship consultation was held to "identify ways to animate life-transforming worship in local congregations in The United Church of Canada." From this the idea of national and regional worship events was born. We call these events Worship Matters.
Worship Matters is experimenting with a new regional format—Worship Matters with a twist! There will be four events, four themes, and four locations:
April 11–14
A weekend retreat with registration limited to 12 participants—12 active United Church congregational worship leaders who are also trained spiritual directors or who are actively engaged in spiritual practices. Purpose: to engage with Jean Springer (author of Nurturing Spiritual Depth in Christian Worship, required reading before the event) about this topic; to establish a network of people pursuing the topic; to commit to one short article sharing insights about the event with wider audiences via the Web and Gathering magazine.

Coming Fall 2012
Come, reflect with us on the wonderful worship experience of Rendez-vous! What made its worship faithful? Appealing? Youthful? Successful? What insights can we learn from this event for the next Rendez-vous? How might worship at this event contribute to worship in our home congregations and at other youth gatherings?

Coming Fall 2012
Our denomination appreciates the importance of congregational song. Our culture has rendered most of us passive when it comes to music and worship. Why is this a significant loss for our spiritual life as congregations? How can a congregation recover from this loss?

September 28–30, 2012
St. Aidan's United Church, Victoria, British Columbia
St. Aidan's United Church has been one of the places where liturgical arts flourish. What makes this so? You are invited to come and share in displays and reflections on topics that include: What do we mean by liturgical arts? What differences do these arts make for public worship? How do beauty and liturgy fit together generally? Why are these arts important for all of us to understand?
