The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaThe United Church of Canada's General Council is a national gathering which meets every three years to elect a new Moderator and to approve new church policies.
In addition to almost 400 delegates called commissioners, more than 300 guests, observers, youth, children, staff, and volunteers will be present for the week-long gathering. Commissioners are selected by the church's 13 regional Conferences and represent an equal number of lay and ordered men and women.
The 40th General Council took place August 9 to 15, 2009, at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan in Kelowna, B.C.
The 39th General Council of the United Church took place in Thunder Bay, Ontario, August 13-19, 2006.
