The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaUnited Church members and supporters give over $300 million annually to their local congregations.
The unified Mission and Service Fund finances the ministry and mission of the United Church. It supports our worship life, and funds efforts promoting justice and peace, and advocating for environmental reforms. The M&S Fund enables the church to respond to human needs both in Canada and around the world with development work, medical aid, emergency relief, and many different kinds of community outreach and social programs. The Mission and Service Fund is the largest contributor to the annual budget of The United Church of Canada, totalling more than $30 million each year.
Gifts to World Development and Relief (WDR) are the only designation within the Mission and Service Fund. Gifts to WDR support our global work in development and relief.
The Healing Fund was originally established by General Council in 1994 as a five-year fundraising and educational campaign (1995-1999) to address the impacts of residential schools on Aboriginal people. It now continues as one facet of the United Church's ongoing reconciliation work with Aboriginal people.
In the event of a major disaster, the church can issue an Emergency Response appeal for donations over and above the Mission and Service Fund. This decision is facilitated by an inter-unit committee according to a specific protocol.
Planned giving of gifts in the future for various ministries of the church can be made through legacies. You can designate your planned gift to any aspect of The United Church of Canada—the Mission and Service Fund, your local congregation, a local mission unit, a United Church camp, a theological college, The United Church of Canada Archives, or The United Church of Canada Foundation
