The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaIn November 2008 a motion was received and approved by the General Council Executive, instructing staff in the General Council Office to develop resources to encourage the participation and ministry of transgender people in the life of the church and to prepare individuals and churches to receive such participation and ministry.
This work is just beginning with the establishment of the Trans / Gender Diversity Task Group. However, the church has produced a number of resources on the issues of sexual orientation.
Trans people and significant others (partners, friends, family, or allies) are invited to participate in an online survey
on Transgender & Gender Diversity in The United Church of Canada. The survey will take 10-15 minutes; all responders are guaranteed anonymity.
In November 2008 a proposal and motion affirming the participation and ministry of transgender people
[PDF: 1 p/ 27 KB] from the Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario was received and approved by the General Council Executive, directing the General Secretary to implement the proposal. The Intercultural and Diverse Communities in Ministry (ICDC) Unit is carrying out this work and overseeing the work of the task group.
