Sexual Orientation
The United Church of Canada has a history of affirming all human beings regardless of sexual orientation. In 1984 we affirmed our acceptance of all human beings as persons made in the image of God, regardless of their sexual orientation. Starting in 1992 we began creating resources for same-sex covenants. In 2003, General Council passed a motion calling on the Government of Canada to recognize same-sex marriage in the marriage legislation.
