Exploring Faith

The United Church affirms all human beings human beings as made in the image of God, regardless of sexual orientation. Some United Church congregations and ministries have gone through a process to declare that they are Affirming—fully inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

While General Council, the governing council of The United Church of Canada, welcomes same-sex marriage, individual United Church congregations are responsible for making decisions locally. Marriages are performed with the permission and under the responsibility of the local congregation.
