Catherine Christie, from Saskatchewan Conference, has been appointed to serve with the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea for a three-year term beginning in July 2010. Catherine is originally from Bedford, Nova Scotia, and holds a B.A. in Anthropology. Catherine was called to ministry in the United Church, graduated from the Atlantic School of Theology, and was ordained by Maritime Conference in 1988. She has served diverse ministries in Alberta and Saskatchewan, with a particular emphasis on rural ministry.
As overseas personnel, Catherine is assigned to the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea General Assembly office in Seoul. Among other tasks, she will assist with PROK English-language communication work to facilitate relationships with its partner churches around the world.
The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea has a central focus of working for justice and peace for all, particularly for those most vulnerable and those who are marginalized. PROK works in active solidarity with some thirty partner churches and organizations around the world, and the partnership between the PROK and the United Church began in 1955.
Sarah Beer is truly looking forward to working in partnership with Centro Esperanza in Chiclayo, Peru, to mutually share gifts and experiences, and work for justice. Sarah graduated in 2008 from the University of Guelph with a B.A. Honours degree in International Development with a concentration in Gender & Development.
As overseas personnel, Sarah is appointed to serve Community Educator and Organizer in partnership with Centro Esperanza for a year and a half.
The Centro Esperanza ("Hope Centre") works in community development efforts with children, youth, and women living in the poorer neighbourhoods of Chiclayo and surrounding small towns. It has its roots in progressive Roman Catholic Christian communities. The partnership between the Centro Esperanza and the United Church began in 2008.
