On June 8, 2010, The United Church of Canada sent a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper urging him to reconsider his decision to suspend high-level visits and impose enhanced sanctions on North Korea following the sinking of the South Korean naval vessel Cheonan.

This call comes from a grave concern about the volatile nature of the crisis in the region, and the belief that keeping communication lines open can be a constructive measure for supporting peace.
