The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaJanuary 27, 2010
February marks Black History (or African Heritage) Month in Canada. This is a time to reflect on the experiences of people African descent—both historic and current.
The United Church of Canada is intentional about honouring Black History Month, and the many contributions of African Canadians to church and society.
For 2010, the United Church has produced a new video about Black History Month. It shares some of the history of Black peoples in the United Church, from the 1800s to present day, and offers opportunities for celebrations and as well as challenges for the church. View the video
and use it in worship; use it for education and engagement.
Also available online are a bulletin insert and worship resources that could be adapted for a variety of local contexts. Offer your feedback
on the Black History Month resources available for this year; bring your suggestions for next year.
