Application process now completed.
The 40th General Council 2009 will meet in Kelowna, B.C., at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan, August 9 to 15, 2009. Many people will volunteer to serve a variety of positions during this event. This includes a hard-working group known as stewards.
Stewards work on the floor of the meeting each day during the General Council. They collate materials, distribute documents, deliver messages, and serve as ushers. Their role assists the work of the Council to flow smoothly. It is at times hard work, with long hours. But it is also an opportunity to experience the Council first-hand.
Anyone who is able to move easily while carrying things, be on his or her feet (with some breaks), and work a long period of time is welcome to apply to serve as a steward. Stewards are basically “on duty” all day. This may include the evening and even some late evenings!
General Council will provide stewards with accommodation and meals. Stewards are responsible to arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the General Council.
Stewards will need to arrive in Kelowna by noon, August 8, 2009, for an orientation to the site and their duties. The departure date is August 16.
To express an interest in being a steward, please fill out the application form
[RTF: 1 p/40 KB], save the file using your last name and first initial as the file name, and send it by e-mail
or fax to 416-231-3103 by April 8, 2009.
There is often a very large response to the invitation to serve as a steward. Further information will be forwarded to those selected as stewards for the 40th General Council by April 15, 2009.
The role of the stewards is a hands-on way of seeing Council at work and worship. Thank you for giving this invitation your consideration.
