Religion in Life Program

United Church clergy and lay people may be providing instruction for the Religion in Life program of a Girl Guides of Canada or Scouts Canada group, whether the local congregation is a host or sponsor or if the Guides/Scouts group meets elsewhere in the community. In these situations, they are considered resource people and must follow the appropriate procedures for resource people, which may involve a screening process that includes a Police Records Check if participating in an overnight outing.

At the national level, The United Church of Canada will continue to support these programs by providing resources and encouragement for the "Religion in Life Emblem" and appropriate recognition of recipients of the emblem.

The Religion in Life Award is provided to assist in the spiritual growth of young people and is the responsibility of the leaders in the participant's own faith community. The emblem/award is given to Scouts and Guides who engage in an intentional process of exploring their faith, incorporating faith practices into their personal lives, and sharing their faith in appropriate ways with others.

The United Church of Canada is pleased to support the faith formation and spiritual growth of young people by providing the following new resource to assist faith community leaders in preparing youth to receive the Religion in Life Award. Program objectives and easy-to-use sessions have been developed for each stage of the award.

Religion in Life: Stages 1 to 5 [PDF: 28 pp/796 KB] (ages 8 through adult) can also be ordered through UCRDstore and participating presbytery resource centres. The adult Religion in Life booklet is also available from UCRD. Brochures describing the program in detail are available to download at Scouts Canada .*
