The United Church of Canada/L'Église Unie du CanadaThe purpose of OUCH is to enhance, promote, and facilitate the relationship between The United Church of Canada and the accommodations for seniors affiliated with the church and among the facilities themselves.
The Seniors' Facilities Standards
[PDF: 50 pp/253 KB] manual was approved by The United Church of Canada in April 2006 and is now available for distribution across the church.
In 2008–2009, individuals were hired as the accreditors and trained in January. The first visit was scheduled for March 2009. All facilities have been mailed a schedule of proposed visits. Specific dates will be negotiated with the facility as the time approaches.
The Seniors’ Facilities Standards Self-Assessment Tool
[PDF: 15 pp/141 KB] (pages 13–29 of the Standards handbook above) will be useful as you prepare for the visit. Use it to identify outstanding items as well as to track the specific policy or documentation that shows compliance (e.g., board minutes).
To be accredited as United Church Seniors’ Facilities and to maintain their status as accredited, organizations need to demonstrate compliance with all of the standards upon the initial visit and subsequent visits, which will follow a three- to five-year cycle. Those meeting the standards receive a certificate indicating that they are a United Church of Canada Seniors’ Facility and are able to operate using the name of The United Church of Canada. Facilities that do not meet the standards will not be authorized to use the name of The United Church of Canada.
If you have any questions about these standards, please feel free to contact Beverlea Oag
